Dog Flea Treatment and what works best
How Do you Know if Your Dog
has Fleas?
1. Your dog will be scratching, but that in itself doesn’t
mean it has fleas.
2. Look in its coat, and if you sea what looks like grains
of dirt, that is a telltale sign. If you take that dirt and crumble it with a small amount of water and it turns
red, then your dog has fleas.
That is enough to know you must
start some kind of Dog Flea Treatment
What is the best Dog Flea
Treatment
There are a number of
Dog Flea Treatments available
1. Dog Flea
Collars. This was the original way
to kill dog fleas, and you can buy them almost anywhere, just be careful because some of the chemicals impregnated
in the collar which repel and kill fleas can damage the dog’s nervous system. Read all instructions carefully, and
be aware that whilst a flea collar is well established there is a much
better Dog Flea Treatment available
2. Oral
Medication Dog Flea Treatment.
Some are only obtainable on prescription, others are over the counter. Whilst they do work, be aware that the
prescription oral medication is very expensive, and both types whilst effective do carry some risk of drug
interaction which could have a harmful effect on your dog
3. Dog Flea
Powders were probably the original
dog flea treatment, but have been superseded, and you must ensure that your dog doesn’t get dry flaky skin if you
continue to use them
4. Flea Shampoos
and Flea Dips was another old
favourite, but it only works if you catch the fleas early. The shampoo and dip must kill fleas and not just wash
them off.
5. Dog Flea
Spray normally only kills adult
fleas, but can also be used to kill fleas on carpets or chairs. Frontline also have a spray which is very
effective.
6. Dog Flea
Comb is almost a waste of time, as
you won’t get even half the fleas out, and if you do it inside, they’ll drop on the carpet giving you potentially a
flea infestation, but certainly the dog will get re-infested, and if you do it in a small garden, the same thing
will happen.
7. Topical Dog
Flea Treatment is where the best
advance in Dog Flea Treatment has taken place. Easily bought in pet shops, even supermarkets, brands like Frontline for Dogs
have swept the market. All you do is place drops of the medication between the dog’s shoulder blades under its fur,
and this will protect your dog for about 4 weeks
On balance there is little doubt
that the Topical Dog Flea Treatment which gives your dog flea control for a month, and the manufacturers of
Frontline. Plus claim it will kill 100% of existing fleas in less than 24 hours. It is also waterproof so won’t
wash off.
